Andy has been at the helm of Viva La Visa since its early guises back in the 90s. As an experienced musician and touring veteran he wanted to ensure that tour managers have access to assistance when it comes to navigating the complicated 'minefield' of visas, work permits and travel documentation.
A punk legend with a penchant for black and hats, he has travelled the world both with The Mekons and subsequently as a Tour Manager. Andy also specialises in Event Production and Recording.
What is your name and your profession?
Andy Corrigan, Founder and Managing Director of Viva La Visa: visa and immigration specialists
When did you first take up music/enter the music industry?
1977. I’ve been working in the immigration side of the touring industry since the 2000s, but before that I was lead singer in punk band The Mekons, then was a tour manager for 20 years.
How did you get to where you are now in your career?
A lot of it was down to chance and being in the right place at the right time, but I wouldn’t have had those chances if it wasn’t for a lot of hard work.
What do you like best about your job?
When things work out for our clients against all odds.
What would you say is the toughest challenge for musicians in 2018?
Making a living, probably same as it was in 1818.
If you had one piece of advice for musicians, what would it be?
Play to your strengths. If music production is your strong suit but you don’t like performing, work hard on your content and don’t feel like you have to book so many gigs. If you’re a great performer but not so good at writing, look to work with other people and focus on your live set. When I was in The Mekons, we didn’t have that much musical talent between us, so our music was all about energy and attitude, and that’s why people liked us.
