ISM urge financial support for musicians

ISM Chief Executive Deborah Annetts has written to Chancellor Rishi Sunak urging him to introduce financial support for musicians and creative freelancers due to the Omicron variant.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been devastating for musicians and the live events sector. While the sector has recovered to some extent in the latter half of 2021, the Omicron variant puts that progress at risk.

Even though current restrictions do not hamper the live events sector directly, rising COVID-19 infections are leading to events being cancelled due to outbreaks and portions of audiences deciding not to attend.

In the letter, which you can read in full below, Deborah asks the Chancellor to provide financial support and to expand the Culture Recovery Fund to include creative freelancers. The letter also asks for the Treasury-backed reinsurance scheme to be expanded to cover more COVID-19 related cancellations.
