ISM Members Fund launches face-to-face counselling as part of new range of services

The ISM Members Fund, a sister charity of the Incorporated Society of Musicians, has today launched a new counselling service as part of a new range of services available to members.

The new service, operated by Health Assured, is completely confidential and includes telephone counselling, face-to-face counselling (up to six sessions) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

Deborah Annetts, Chief Executive of the Incorporated Society of Musicians said:

‘Looking after your mental health is just as important as your physical health – and we know first-hand from our members the challenges out there for everyday musicians. The music sector has a high level of self-employed workers and in the largely unregulated gig economy, where short-term contracts or freelance work is prevalent, there are high levels of stress and anxiety. We hope that this new service not only helps our members take control of their mental well-being but contributes to the discussion of mental health in our enriching, but challenging, industry.’

The pilot phase of this new service will run between July and December 2019, on a first-come-first-served basis.

Other new services will be announced in the autumn.

Notes for editors

More information about the service:

To access the service, members will call the ISM’s 24-hour personal support and advice line. They will speak with a qualified counsellor who will determine whether counselling is appropriate and if so, give members the offer of telephone counselling or face-to-face counselling.

The service is completely confidential and the ISM team will not know who has accessed the service.

About the ISM Members Fund

The ISM Members Fund, the sister charity of the ISM, has provided help and support to members or former members of the ISM and their dependants who are in real need since 1917. Over the coming year we will be expanding the range of services on offer to provide greater support in the areas of health and welfare as part of ISM membership.

About the ISM

The Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM) is the UK's professional body for musicians and a nationally recognised subject association for music education. Since 1882, we have been dedicated to promoting the importance of music and protecting the rights of those working in the music profession. We support almost 9,500 musicians across the UK and Ireland with our unrivalled legal advice and representation, comprehensive insurance and specialist services. Our members come from all areas of the music profession and from a wide variety of genres and musical backgrounds. As well as working musicians, our membership also includes recent graduates, part-time and full-time music students, and retired musicians. We campaign tirelessly in support of musicians’ rights, music education and the profession as a whole. We are a financially independent not-for-profit organisation with no political affiliation. This independence allows us the freedom to campaign on any issue affecting musicians.
