COVID-19: The Chancellor's statement
The Chancellor Rishi Sunak has today released details of financial measures to protect workers' wages during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis.
Deborah Annetts, Chief Executive of the Incorporated Society of Musicians said:
'The Chancellor has just announced far reaching measures to support workers in these very difficult times.
We welcome the introduction of the new Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme which will provide 80% of a retained employed worker’s salary up to £2500 per month. This scheme applies to all workers who are on PAYE as from 1 March and will cover those on zero hour contracts. We are also pleased to see support for the self-employed announced ranging from greater access to benefits, increases to the level of benefits and tax measures such as deferred tax.
The Chancellor said that more detail will follow this weekend and we will be examining these details carefully so that we can update our members and music sector as soon as we can.'
