COVID-19: ISM update 23 March 2020

In response to the Chancellor’s statement on Friday, the ISM wrote a letter demanding further action to protect musicians.

In the letter, we are calling for an urgent emergency fund to be put in place to support freelance musicians with the loss of their earnings as a result of COVID-19, outlining how the welfare system is not sufficient in supporting musicians through these unprecedented times.

We will continue to lobby the Government daily until robust financial measures are put in place. We also urge our members to contact their local MPs with our new template letter, to help protect our sector. We thank you immensely for your support during this difficult time.

The ISM are proud to be part of the new support website, Corona Advice for Musicians, where you’ll find the latest updates and advice for musicians all in one place. This is a collaboration between us and Help Musicians, The Ivors Academy, the Music Managers Forum, the Music Producers Guild, the Musicians' Union, and UK Music. We will continue to work closely together to support our sector.

We are working on a new advice page for performers, How to put on online concerts and gigs, with arts entrepreneur David Taylor. You can also refer to our Performers advice which outlines the key issues the workforce could be facing. We will continue to create new advice for those navigating life as a performer as the COVID-19 situation develops.

Supporting fellow musicians through these difficult times is important. Join our ISM member community Facebook group to keep in touch with your fellow ISM members.
