COVID-19: ISM update 22 March 2020

In response to the Chancellor’s statement on Friday, the ISM wrote a letter demanding further action to protect musicians.

In the letter, the ISM is calling for an urgent emergency fund to be put in place to support freelance musicians with the loss of their earnings as a result of COVID-19, outlining how the welfare system is not sufficient in supporting musicians through these unprecedented times.

We will continue to lobby the Government daily until robust financial measures are put in place. In the meantime, we urge our members to get in touch with their local MPs with details of how COVID-19 is impacting their work.

We have updated our safeguarding advice for music teachers giving lessons remotely and recommend all members planning to teach using digital platforms read the advice carefully. If you have any questions, please do let us know at [email protected].

In these tough times, supporting each other is important. Join our ISM member community Facebook group to keep in touch with your fellow ISM members.
