You don't need any specific qualifications to join the ISM. Everyone has a different route into the music profession. That’s why we offer various ways that you can join us and demonstrate that you are working at a professional level.

If you are joining the ISM through the 'qualified route' you need include details of your qualification(s) on your application form. If you are joining online simply enter the name of your qualification, the institution you studied at and the year you graduated when you apply online.

Alternatively, if you do not have music-related qualifications at level four (HNC) or above, we have three other 'routes to membership'.

You don't need qualifications to become a friend of the ISM Trust.
