Patricia Forbes - Don't Exagerate
A Political Statement in the Form of Hysteria by Howard Barker
Patricia performs recitation of a poem by the playwright Howard Barker, and the title is "Don't Exaggerate". Rather than simply reading it, Patricia haas staged it, so I will be in costume. The writing of the poem is very classical in style, although written 30 years ago; the interest for the writer is me, the performer, using the techniques of the operatic/classical voice and applying it to the spoken voice, thereby giving a truly dramatic rendition of his work.
The sound and lighting is by Simon Barnes, a former music graduate of Bristol University, and his creation, using electronic sounds within the resonant acoustics of the Cathedral, has enhanced the dark and dramatic atmosphere of the piece.
