The British Association of Music Therapy (BAMT) Conference 2020

We are excited to announce that next year the British Association of Music Therapy (BAMT) will be hosting their fourth conference in Belfast. Our theme, ‘Open Ground: Music Therapy in Collaboration and Exchange’, seeks to explore partnerships with or between music therapists, colleagues, musicians, and other arts practitioners, researchers and broader organisations. In particular, we welcome the participations of experts through experience through their collaboration and sharing with music therapists and others.

Have you ever been curious about music therapy, what it is and how it works? Music therapy is an established clinical intervention, which helps those whose lives have been affected by injury, illness or disability through the supporting of their psychological, emotional, cognitive, physical, communicative and social needs.

The therapy is delivered by qualified music therapists. BAMT is the professional body for music therapy in the UK, and we actively work to provide information, professional support and training opportunities both to those within and outwith the profession.

We recently asked our members to share their favourite quote about music (or music therapy) and the following by Sarah Dessen, the American novelist, was suggested:

Music is the great uniter. An incredible force. Something that people who differ on everything and anything else can have in common.” – Sarah Dessen, American novelist.

At our next conference, we seek to open up discussions around exchanges between different disciplines and to better understand the successes and challenges that accompany this way of working. And we’re also interested in exploring more about the exchanges that happen within music therapy itself.

Our event is welcome to all to attend and promises to be another diverse and fascinating weekend. Not only will there be a multitude of presentations including case studies and new research, there will also be poster presentations, workshops, and round table discussions. We would love to extend a warm welcome to those outside our profession to attend and share their expertise.

So if you’re interested in finding out more about music therapy, or have experience of working alongside music therapists, then this is the conference for you!

It will take place from the 3 to 5t April 2020, at Queens University, Belfast. You can keep up to date with details of the event via our website (www.bamt.org), Facebook or Twitter using #BAMTConf2020.

We look forward to seeing you there!
