Kathryn Williams

Research & Policy Officer in Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion

Alongside her career as a successful flute soloist and orchestral player, Kathryn joined the ISM in March 2022 as Research & Policy Officer in Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion.

She is passionate about new music, having commissioned more than 100 pieces limited to a single breath for her project, Coming Up for Air. She has released recordings for labels such as All That Dust, Another Timbre, Huddersfield Contemporary Records, and NMC. She enjoys freelancing with orchestras such as Hallé and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and she also plays with her new music ensemble, House of Bedlam.

Kathryn attended the Royal Northern College of Music for her BMus, MMus, and International Artist Diploma. She recently completed her PhD at the University of Huddersfield, where her focus was on the visibility of breathing through creating performance and collaborative composition outputs. A highlight of this was becoming a qualified pool freediver!
