Dorine Sorber

Council member

Dorine Sorber is a Dutch pianist and piano teacher and holds a Bachelor and Master degree from the Royal Conservatory in Brussels where she studied with Professor Mikhail Faerman. In 2002, 2003 and 2005 she was selected to participate in the masterclasses in memory of Sergey Rachmaninov with Professor Viktor Merzhanov in Tambov, Russia. She has more than 15 years of experience as a performer and teacher and after living in the Netherlands, Belgium and France, she lives and works in Scotland since 2014. She founded her own piano studio and also works as a piano teacher at St Leonards school in St Andrews.

Alongside her musical career, she has a strong background in law and has a particular interest in constitutional, administrative and human rights law. As a student, she was an active member of the European Law Students Association and she has worked at the Belgian Bar Association in Brussels alongside her musical career, before moving to Scotland.



She is passionate about combining both backgrounds to help protecting musician's rights, and to ensure access to music lessons for all children, regardless of their background.
