In the August issue...

Editorial - Another Year, Another Yearbook
ISM members have been sent the 2007-08 edition of the Society’s Yearbook with this issue of MJ. And the enclosed leaflet You & the ISM will remind them – as well as their colleagues who have not yet been prudent enough to join – of the benefits of membership, from round-the-clock legal and tax helplines to generous discounts on goods and services, and from comprehensive insurance schemes to counselling at times of stress, as well as the extraordinary value for money offered by the subscription. more

Feature - Muscular Relaxation in Performance by Orience Burton
Further to the feature Musicians & Hand Therapy and Muscle Tones which appeared in Music Journal (MJ Sep 05 and Jan 06 respectively), I should like to suggest the following techniques that I was taught many years ago in the form of  ‘Muscular Relaxation in Performance’. more

Feature - Rondo Publishing – A History by Jacqui Robertson-Wade
It all really began ten years ago, when I wrote a tutor for viols for use in schools. Warwickshire County Music Service launched an early music group: viols, together with many other Renaissance instruments, were offered for students to learn to play. I began by teaching two pupils, and this number has grown to around 40 as more instruments have become available. The county now has a stock of 21 treble, eight tenor and eight bass viols. We also have another teacher of viols, Alison Kinder. more
