25 August 2006

The new ISM website has now been launched, incorporating a range of special features for members and non-members alike, as well as including the most popular sections from the old version. The new site, still located at www.ism.org, replaces the previous model, which had been running for three years. Designed by Amazing Internet Ltd, in partnership with the ISM, it builds on and improves a number of important features.

Changes to the site have been mainly in terms of design, importing a contemporary feel which brings it into line with the ISM’s overall brand and image. A bold use of pictures and colour portrays the modern image of the Society and captures the active, professional status of its members.

A newly designed homepage greets visitors when they arrive at the site, and is designed to act as a portal through which other parts of the site can be accessed easily and quickly. The navigational structure has also been completely reformatted, with each page being categorised into four sections – About ISM, Info, News & Events and Members’ Area. Drop-down menus allow visitors to access any page, no matter where they are in the site.

ISM Chief Executive Neil Hoyle said: ‘The website is a vital tool in the work of the ISM. It helps us to communicate effectively with our members; shows those musicians who have yet to join us exactly what they are missing; and informs the public about the profession, allowing them to take advantage of the services our members offer. This new site encompasses everything the ISM stands for – a contemporary, forward-looking organisation that is in touch with its members and the changing world in which they work.

Other new features of the site include:

> a News page and homepage news feed;
> a Members’ Area that has been completely overhauled and is now user name and password protected. Members can automatically set up their
own options and change them at any time without having to contact ISM Head Office;
> an individual homepage for each membership category, which can be customised with news or announcements that are suited to each;
> members and non-members can find the answers to many queries using the Frequently Asked Questions section;
> each of the ISM’s Professional Registers now has its individual homepage, which provide more information to prospective clients and students about the way the registers work, and the qualifications and vetting of the members listed.

The site still includes many of the important features of the old site, including information on joining, as well as downloadable application forms; a large e-commerce section; a search facility for each of the professional Registers of specialists; information on the Society’s regional Centres and their events; a careers section; and every ISM information sheet available to download.

The website remains a vital part of the ISM, as a means to recruit new members, communicate with current members and promote the Society. The old site has frequently attracted more than 2,000 hits a day, and it is hoped that the new site will provide even more easily accessible information to visitors.

Ends: 07 / 2006
