Finding Creativity

25 September 2010 | 9.30am - 4.30pm
Kings Place, London N1

Yamaha jazz workshop

The ISM organises regular national seminars on topics of interest to everyone who works in professional music. Join us at London's spectacular cultural venue, Kings Place, for this one day seminar on creativity.

We are once again facing a time of change and challenge for music education. Finding Creativity will consider these challenges and explore how performers and teachers can bring new creative elements and experiences into their work, particularly within the context of the individual lesson.

Finding Creativity offers excellent value to anyone with an interest in professional music and music education. Discounted entry is available for all ISM members and a special price of just £10 is offered for students. Morning and afternoon refreshments, as well as lunch, are included within the fee.

We hope you can join us at this event and that you'll spread the word to your colleagues and friends; all are welcome.

About the day

On arrival at Kings Place from 9.30am you will be greeted by one of the ISM team. Refreshments will be served whilst you register and you can mingle with delegates and speakers.

The keynote speech will be delivered by Richard Morrison, who comments, often provocatively, on music, arts and culture for The Times. Richard will share his thoughts about music education, particularly in the light of the new government’s policies as they develop over the coming months.

Paul Harris, who is one of the UK’s leading music educationalists, will give a presentation on how to deliver an instrumental lesson with a difference, by bringing together all aspects of teaching in an innovative way. He will look at how teachers can integrate improvisation and composition confidently into lessons.

The rhythm section from the Yamaha Jazz Experience 2010 under-19 winners, Tomorrow's Warriors Biggish Band, led by their inspirational educator and jazz trumpeter Abram Wilson, will feature in a jazz workshop from the Yamaha Music Education team. There will be a talk and more live music led by Liz Childs, who is Director of the Primary Schools Teaching Scheme for Musicale, a community music leisure centre for adults and children, based in Hertfordshire.

We'll bring the day to a close at 4.30pm, giving you a chance to catch the train home or stay and chat with members of the ISM team.
