The ISM organises regular national seminars on topics of interest to everyone who works in professional music. Join us at London's spectacular cultural venue, Kings Place, for this one day seminar with some of the UK's most forward-thinking music educators who are working to change lives through music.

Music has the power to change lives. Performers and teachers can be transformed by the experiences of those with whom they interact.

These are some of the themes that will be explored in Changing Lives Through Music, which is designed for all practitioners with an interest in music education.

Changing Lives Through Music offers excellent value to anyone with an interest in professional music and music education. Discounted entry is available for all ISM members and a special price of just £10 is offered for students. Morning and afternoon refreshments, as well as lunch, are included within the fee.

We hope you can join us at this event and that you'll spread the word to your colleagues and friends; all are welcome.

About the day

On arrival at Kings Place from 9.30am you will be greeted by one of the ISM team. Refreshments will be served whilst you register and you can mingle with delegates and speakers.

The day's activities begin with a welcome from Robert Marsh, who is Chair of our Music in Education Section. Our keynote speaker, Christina Coker OBE (Chief Executive of Youth Music), will explain the philosophy that underpins Youth Music’s work, how music can change lives, and how the charity works to bring a broad spectrum of musical experiences to at risk children.

The day will continue with an in-depth presentation by Peter Garden, from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, on the orchestra’s involvement in the In Harmony programme.

The afternoon sessions will be devoted to the work of The Voices Foundation. Michael Stocks, their Director of Curriculum & Training will speak about the Foundation’s remit and philosophy. This will be followed by workshop sessions focusing on early years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, led by Suzi Digby OBE, the Voices Foundation’s founder and principal and Michael Stocks.

We'll bring the day to a close at 4.15pm, giving you a chance to catch the train home or stay and chat with members of the ISM team.
