ISM welcomes Cambridge Review

16 October 2009

The musicians' professional body, the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM), has welcomed the final report of the Cambridge Primary Review, which highlights the importance of specialist teaching in music.

ISM Chief Executive, Deborah Annetts, said:

'This is a hugely important review that echoes many of the findings of our own research into music education.

'Music should be at the heart of every child's primary education and we welcome the recognition that the Cambridge Primary Review gives to specialist music teaching.

'ISM members work with primary school children in many different settings - from classroom and instrumental teachers to music therapists and community musicians.

'We know that learning music with a specialist teacher makes an enormous and long-lasting positive impact on children's development.'
