EU referendum results: your membership

Naturally, ISM members may be wondering about the implications of the result of the referendum on Britain's membership of the European Union.

There will be no immediate changes.

The rules governing exit of the European Union are contained in the Lisbon Treaty. Article 50 deals with the leaving by a member state of the Union. The UK Government will form a view as to when it will activate Article 50, after which a two year period for negotiation will occur.

ISM members in the meantime travelling and working in Europe need not be concerned about changes to their status or any effect on ISM benefits that rely on them being domiciled in a member country of the European Union such as Public Liability Insurance and legal expenses insurance cover for disputes (that arise in the EU).
