How to update your Music Directory profile

Click on this link: http://musicdirectory.ism.org, and log in to your account by following these steps:

  1. Click on the words ‘Update your profile’ (top right)
  2. Enter the same username and password you use for the main ISM website
  3. Click on the ‘Log in’ button

Your online profile

Here are the details we have for your Music Directory profile. You can edit everything in the following five sections.

NB 1 – you must click the ‘Submit’ button at the bottom of each page to save your changes before moving to a different page.

NB 2 – certain updates you make are subject to simple approval by a member of ISM staff, e.g. changes to biography, adding new images. This is to protect you and us from the highly unlikely possibility of someone uploading unsuitable material to your profile. We will approve all of your updates as soon as possible.

1. Main details

Select the contact details you would like to be published on your Music Directory profile by ticking the relevant boxes, and click the ‘Submit’ button to save your changes.

If you want to add more or edit existing contact details, click the link at the bottom of the page. This takes you to the Your details window (see below).

2. Biography

Here you can type in your biographical information. There are various buttons to let you copy/paste, change bold/italic/underline, check the spelling, and even ‘undo’ in case you make a mistake. Be sure to click the 'Submit' button to save your changes.

3. Images

You can include up to six photos/images in your Music Directory profile. To add an image, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the 'Browse...' button
  2. This will take you to a window that lets you browse your own computer to find the image you want. Once you have found it, click 'Open'
  3. If you want to, you can type in a Title and Description of the image
  4. If you want this image to be your main profile picture (replacing the randomly-selected silhouette profile picture), tick the box near the bottom of this page
  5. Click the 'Submit' button to save this image

Please note that you cannot upload images that are larger than 75 KB. If you need to change the size of an image before putting it on your profile you can use a programme like Photoshop or Microsoft Picture Manager, or you can resize your image quickly and easily using a free online tool called webresizer which can be accessed by going to www.webresizer.com/resizer We recommend you set your new size to 640 (width or height) to resize the image to the correct dimensions.

4. Professional activities

This is the part of your profile that tells the outside world what your professional musical activities are, e.g. ‘Performer – Trombone – Jazz’.
Any details we already hold for you are here, but you can add more by following these steps:

  1. At the very top of the window, click the link that says ‘Click here to add a new professional activity...’
  2. Starting with Level 1 – click on the drop-down menu and select the appropriate activity, e.g. ‘Conductor’
  3. Next, select from the options in Levels 2 and 3 (NB – not every activity will have options for Levels 2 and 3)
  4. If there are specific words you want to add to help people find you more easily when searching for a musician, type them in the Keywords box
  5. Finally, click the 'Submit' button at the bottom of the page to save your changes

To delete any professional activities on your profile, follow the instructions on screen.

NB – do NOT delete any approved qualifications on this page. You cannot re-enter them.

Qualifications
If you have qualifications you wish to add to your profile please email membership@ism.org or write to us at the address below with a scan or photocopy of your certificate(s).

5. Videos

You can add up to three videos of your musical work to your Music Directory profile. You will first need to have uploaded your videos to a standard video website, e.g. YouTube. These video websites provide instructions as to how to do that.

After that, to include the video on your Music Directory profile you need to use what is known as the video’s ‘source code’. So, if you want to use a video that is on YouTube, you can find the source code by doing the following:

  1. Click on the ‘Share’ button underneath the YouTube video screen – this will reveal some more buttons, including one labelled ‘Embed’
  2. Click on ‘Embed’ – this reveals a small window which includes the source code (the source code will begin: <iframe...)
  3. Copy all of the source code

Then, back on the ISM Music Directory ‘Video’ menu, paste that source code into the box indicated. If you want to, you can type in a Title and Description of the video, and then click the 'Submit' button to save it.

Your details

The page called 'Your details' lists the ISM’s master record of your contact details. These are used for your subscription record and all other communications, and so should only be changed if you wish to change your main record with us as well.
